To Blog or Not to Blog? The Benefits of Blogging Can Be Big.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me recently if they should blog for their business; others say they want to, but are nervous about what to put on their blog. Reasonable concerns, but when the benefits of blogging are considered, it is really just a matter of learning how to blog – not if you should blog.
Here are a few benefits to think about:
(1) Search Engine Optimization for your Web site. Honestly, the fact that blogs can help drive traffic to your company’s Web site is reason enough to jump in the game. How does blogging help SEO? The short version includes placing key search words in the headline, the copy and most of all, tagging your blog with relevant key search words from your blog; this helps search engine index pages. Also, keeping your blog fresh keeps new content up as well which is another bonus. If your blog is not connected to your Web site include a link. Blogging is an easy thing to do, inexpensive and something that can be done in-house.
(2) Connect with your customers. By offering information to your clients or prospective customers, you are creating or deepening your relationship with that person. While it is virtual, think of it as a one-on-one conversation; answer questions you hear from customers or post information of value.
Those two points alone should be enough to get you going…still unsure? Remember these guidelines:
(1) Keep it simple. Don’t try to write a novel!
(2) Use correct grammar, but don’t try to be fancy.
(3) Being authentic is important – you don’t have to be profound. As our moms all told us “just be yourself!”
(4) Talk with your readers – and listen to what they have to say. Blogging is a wonderful place for a PR basic…two-way communication.
