Social Media Balancing Act

image

I’ve spent a good part of the day today researching various social media applications and how they are best used to promote an event. One of our clients is using social media in a unique and innovative way to bring an entire industry of people together. The challenge is making sure that each outlet comes together to create one cohesive message.

Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Ning (which I have recently added to my social media dictionary) can be great for businesses if used properly. While these sites are a fast and easy way to send information to a large group of people, you can easily alienate other target audiences if social media is your sole means of communication. Remember that direct mail, press releases or other traditional media are still viable avenues for distributing your message. Discovering the right balance of new vs. traditional media is important to the overall success of your campaign.
