Facebook for Business Continues to Evolve

We talk with clients all of the time about how to enhance their online presence, maximize their website, increase search engine optimization and integrate social media. Facebook use for business continues to be on the upswing so we spend time discussing how to best use Facebook for business, how it is different from personal use, how it is a two-way communication channel, how to engage with people and so on. It can be an incredible tool – a very real part of your strategy – when used correctly.
So, in the spirit of sharing information, following is an outline of a new Facebook feature:
You can now tag photos with a brand, product, company or person’s Facebook page, similar to the way you tag friends now. And, when a page is tagged, the photo will show up on the photos tab— not on the wall.
In thinking about how to maximize this new ability, you could take photos at an event sponsored by your company/or that your company is participating in at some level; then, tag the images with your company name or brand. Another way to use this is if you know people who posted pictures of themselves using, wearing, eating, drinking, participating with your brand/product then the image can be tagged.
My only caveat to this is to consider image and context when tagging images of people in real life situations; if they are in situations not congruent with your brand, think twice. It is one thing for the person to post the image – it may be another thing entirely if you tag it with your brand and there are illegal (think underage drinking) or politically incorrect activities shown. On the other hand, it can be another fun, relevant way to share your brand with the world.
