A designer's first BLOG

Okay, okay…. so it’s long overdue that I got on the blog train, not to mention, my boss is sort of forcing me to do so. I have to admit, I have been sort of fearful of the whole blog thing. Not wanting to come across as some snooty design guru (which I am farther than China from), I have intentionally procrastinated.
Thinking about spelling and grammatical errors and how the “writers” in my office, and the open public, might cringe when reading, makes me double-cringe. :)
The millions of topics on end that I could blog about intimated me even more… because in the end, what do I know? I’m a designer, not a writer. And who will really take a 26 year old graphic designer/aspiring artist’s word seriously?
But lo and behold, here I am… blogging. Whew! (That was a sigh of relief.) So I decided to just get over it. With a little advice from colleagues (thanks Kim!) and a few online reads, I realized that blogging isn’t quite so scary. And for those of you who are avoiding it, I am including a few tips for beginning bloggers. See below thanks to: problogger.net.
Here are five tips for beginning blog writing.
1. Make your opinion known
People like blogs, they like blogs because they are written by people and not corporations. People want to know what people think, crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible.
2. Link like crazy.
Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post.
3. Write Less
Give the maximum amount of information with the least amount of words. Time is finite and people are infinitely busy. Blast your knowledge into the reader at the speed of sound.
4. 250 is enough
A long post is easier to forget and harder to get into. A short post is the opposite.
5. Make Headlines snappy
Contain your whole argument in your headline. Check out National newspapers to see how they do it.
